New Covenant Gryphons
What We Do
New Covenant Schools Athletics is committed to developing student-athletes through competition, character, and faith. Serving approximately 250 student athletes, the Gryphons offer a variety of athletic opportunities across the Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels. Gryphon teams compete in Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, Basketball, Tennis, Lacrosse, Golf, and Track & Field. More than accolades, New Covenant Athletics seeks to use sport as an extension of the school’s mission. Through athletics, we strive to build a culture that strengthens our school community, and prepares students to carry the lessons learned through competition into every area of life.
Where We Compete
We compete in the BRAC, the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference, for our JV and Varsity sports. We also compete in the VISAA, the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association, typically in Division III or Division IV.

Why We Compete
Athletic competition at New Covenant Schools is designed to support the overall mission of the school and contribute to the physical, cultural and social development of our students. We maintain a program that strives for excellence and competitiveness, allowing students to participate according to ability, commitment and dedication. The program also insists on Christ-like attitudes among all parties. New Covenant Athletics operates with firm conviction that many of life’s greatest lessons are learned on the court and on the fields.
Our athletic philosophy, especially at the Varsity level, is centered on two points: 1.) The pursuit of winning and 2.) The manner in which we pursue winning. We focus on being process oriented instead of merely results oriented. We want to prepare in a way that gives us the best chance of success, regardless of the outcome. New Covenant also has firm conviction that the way we pursue excellence matters. Exhibiting full commitment while maintaining behaviors and attitudes that we can be proud of and are representative of our Faith and our school is the ultimate goal.
